Celebrating our designation as a Collaborative Care Center

News and Announcements | February 5, 2026 | Jane and John Justin Institute for Mind Health

Cook Children's Medical Center is officially designated as a GLUT1 Deficiency Foundation Collaborative Care Center with Jaehyung Lim, M.D., Paul Thornton, M.D., and Christos Papadelis, Ph.D., shouldering the initiative.

Individuals with GLUT1 deficiency face complex, lifelong medical challenges that can look different for every patient. Because the condition is rare, many families find that local health care providers may have limited experience treating GLUT1 deficiency or may not have access to the specialized support services needed for optimal care.

The Collaborative Care Center designation honors hospitals and clinics that provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary and patient-centered care, bringing together experienced specialists who understand the unique needs of patients with GLUT1 deficiency.

By working collaboratively across the GLUT1 deficiency community, our providers are helping advance knowledge, support research and ensure families feel connected and confident in their child’s care.

Great outcomes begin with great input. Having a medical system where every department, doctor, and care team member works together means that your child can have quick access to testing, diagnosis and treatment, and that means better outcomes now and in the future.
