Welcome new faculty
The Jane and John Justin Institute for Mind Health at Cook Children's is pleased to welcome three new members to the faculty. These new physicians will serve patients in the departments of Pain Management, Neurology and Developmental Pediatrics.
Asif Kahn, M.D.
Dr. Asif Khan is a triple-board certified pediatric pain physician and pediatric anesthesiologist. He completed his undergraduate education at Texas Tech University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English with a specialization in creative writing. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2015. He completed a residency in Anesthesiology in Dallas at the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW), graduating in 2019. During his time at UTSW, he was selected as chief resident. He then completed a pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School in 2020 and stayed on to complete a combined pediatric pain and chronic pain fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, which he completed in 2021. Dr. Kahn joined the staff at Boston Children's Hospital and faculty at Harvard Medical School shortly thereafter, where he practiced pediatric pain and pediatric anesthesia for multiple years. During his time at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Khan completed the Program in Clinical Effectiveness at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He is married to Aarusha Jana Das, M.D., who will be joining Cook Children's later this month as the first combined pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine physician at Cook Children's. The Kahns are the proud parents of toddler twins and are very excited to be closer to friends and family. In his free time, Dr. Kahn enjoys reading books and watching movies.
Brooke Kimbrell, M.D.
Dr. Brooke Kimbrell is a neurodevelopmental neurologist who loves puzzles. Raised in the Appalachian Mountains of Georgia, she studied biomedical engineering at Mercer University School of Engineering. She then attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. After that, she completed residencies in pediatrics at the University of Maryland and neurodevelopmental disabilities at Johns Hopkins and the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore.
Her love of puzzles helps her enjoy complex cases where neurological and developmental symptoms reflect brain or genetic problems. Of particular interest, is the comprehensive care of people with cerebral palsy. This includes assessing the cognitive impact of brain injuries and subsequent motor limitations. Brooke uses her overlapping perspectives in neurology, development and assistive technology to research cognition in cerebral palsy.
Although new to Fort Worth, Brooke is already enjoying life in the Ridglea Hills neighborhood with her husband, Jonathan, and toddler, Wesley. She likes good food, outdoor activities, swing dancing, DIY projects and will nearly always say yes to an invitation.
Jaehyung Lim, M.D.
The Neurology Department of the Justin Institute welcomes Dr. Jaehyung Lim as the newest member of the epilepsy division as of September 2024. Dr. Lim completed a pediatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital followed by clinical neurophysiology training at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia.
His special interests are in genetic epilepsies, specifically tuberous sclerosis complex, as well as neuro-modulation and neuro-metabolic disorders. He has been involved in clinical research focused on neuro-genetic and neuro-metabolic disorders and has also spent time teaching medical students in their neurology training.
He enjoys volunteering and has previously participated in pediatric epilepsy camp. In his spare time, Dr. Lim practices Jiu Jitsu and enjoys trying new foods.
Please join us in welcoming our new faculty.
